Soccer

Soccer, known as football in most countries outside North America, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a ball into the opposing team’s net, using primarily the feet, but also allowing any part of the body except the hands and arms, with the exception of the goalkeepers, who are permitted to use their hands within a specific area known as the penalty area. The game is played on a rectangular field called a pitch, which is typically grass or artificial turf, and it lasts for two halves of 45 minutes each, with a 15-minute halftime break. Soccer is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, maintained by the International Football Association Board. It is one of the most popular sports worldwide, with millions of fans, professional leagues, and international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, which is held every four years and is one of the most-watched sporting events globally. The sport is known for its emphasis on teamwork, strategy, and skillful play, making it a dynamic and engaging athletic competition.
